General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, 52, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Museveni’s eldest son, made the announcement in a series of posts on X on Friday, November 6, 2026.

“My time as CDF is coming to an end. I have accomplished all the tasks my God gave me. In a few months, I will hand over this office to a qualified officer. I shall dedicate my life to Christ after that,” he wrote.⁠

Kenya, Uganda and South Africa have been selected to prepare for the production of a new once-a-month HIV prevention pill.

The drug, called alimatravir (MK-8527), is being developed by MSD/Merck and is currently undergoing Phase 3 clinical trials.

Manufacturers selected in Africa are Universal Corporation Limited in Kenya, Quality Chemical Industries Limited in Uganda and Aspen Pharmacare in South Africa.

With support from Unitaid, the companies are preparing their manufacturing capacity early so they could produce the drug locally if trials are successful and regulators approve it.

The move could help make new HIV prevention medicines available faster in Africa while strengthening the continent’s ability to manufacture advanced medicines locally.

In 1975, Idi Amin sentenced a British writer to death for calling him a “village tyrant” and a “black Nero.”
Denis Hills was a British author and lecturer at Makerere University in Kampala. After witnessing the brutality and disorder that followed Idi Amin’s 1971 coup, Hills wrote sharply about the Ugandan dictator in the manuscript of his upcoming book, The White Pumpkin. The manuscript described Amin as a “village tyrant” and a “black Nero.” When Ugandan authorities discovered the remarks, Hills was arrested and taken before a military tribunal. He was convicted of treason and sedition and sentenced to death by firing squad.
Amin then turned Hills’ fate into a diplomatic confrontation with Britain. He demanded that senior British officials come to Kampala and plead for the writer’s life. Queen Elizabeth II personally appealed for clemency, while British officials were sent to negotiate with Amin. The dictator reportedly threatened to have Hills executed at Kampala’s “Execution Valley” unless Foreign Secretary James Callaghan came to Uganda himself.
The crisis eventually drew in Zaire’s President Mobutu Sese Seko, who helped mediate between Britain and Uganda. In July 1975, Callaghan travelled to Kampala. On July 10, 1975, Amin dramatically brought Hills out of military detention and handed him over to the British delegation. Hills expressed regret for the language he had used about Amin and was allowed to return safely to Britain.

Ugandan Legendary Singer Dies After Being Attacked by His Sidechick’s Boyfriend

Afrigo Band co-founder and veteran musician Moses Matovu has died after he was assaulted in Kibuli, Kampala, at about 5:30am Thursday. Police say the attack stemmed from a confrontation involving his girlfriend, Rose Tumusiime, and her former boyfriend.

Tumusiime, who was with Matovu at the time, has been arrested and is assisting detectives with investigations. Police identified the main male suspect as a private security guard who was previously in a relationship with Tumusiime. He fled the scene and is being pursued.

Residents of the area claimed Tumusiime is a renowned sex worker. Matovu was rushed to Kibuli Hospital by a boda boda rider but died while receiving treatment. Police say investigations are ongoing.

🚨 IEBC RESPONDS TO CLAIMS OF VOTES BEING ‘SMUGGLED’ FROM UGANDA

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has dismissed allegations of an elaborate scheme to illegally register voters, transfer voters and register foreign nationals ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election.

The claims followed a teaser for an upcoming investigative report alleging that voter-registration materials were being moved across the Kenya–Uganda border.

IEBC says the allegations remain unsubstantiated, stating that it has not received credible evidence to support claims of electoral malpractice. The Commission also says no KIEMS kit has been reported missing, intercepted or unlawfully moved to Uganda or any other foreign destination.

“The stories on electoral malpractice or illegality relating to the registration of voters, illegal transfers of voters and alleged registration of foreigners as voters in Kenya and abroad remain unsubstantiated and untrue.” — IEBC

The Commission says voter registration is being conducted in designated and gazetted centres across all 290 constituencies, with administrative and technological safeguards in place.

Uganda’s Army Chief Declares Bobi Wine Permanally Barred from Future Elections
