South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria are Africa’s three biggest economies, but none of their presidents are attending the 2026 UN General Assembly in New York in person. Instead, senior government officials are representing them. Ronald Lamola is leading South Africa’s delegation, Egypt is represented by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, and Nigeria is represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

For South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa is staying in the country after doctors advised him to rest and recover. Egypt’s Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is also not attending, with his prime minister representing him.
