The U.S. government really does have an official document called CONPLAN 8888, also known as the Counter-Zombie Dominance Plan.

However, it is not an actual plan to fight an approaching zombie apocalypse.

It was created in 2011 by military planners at the U.S. Strategic Command as a training exercise to teach military personnel how to develop emergency response plans.

The document deliberately uses a fictional zombie outbreak to explore how the military might respond to an extraordinary national emergency.

It covers different hypothetical zombie threats, including pathogenic zombies, radiation-based zombies, and even evil magic zombies.

One particularly unusual category is chicken zombies, which refers to a fictional threat involving infected chickens.

The document includes them as part of its deliberately absurd scenarios to make the training exercise memorable while avoiding real-world political sensitivities.

Despite its bizarre subject, CONPLAN 8888 discusses serious military planning concepts, including protecting civilians, coordinating government agencies, maintaining essential services, and responding to widespread threats.
