U.S. just put $414 million behind a uranium mine in Niger two years after getting kicked out. - Washington approved up to $414.2 million in financing for Global Atomic’s Dasa project, the company said. Sources are calling it a quiet win for the U.S. after Niger expelled American forces in 2024.

Dasa is billed as Africa’s highest-grade uranium deposit. Production is aimed for late 2028. Global Atomic owns 80%. Niger owns 20%.

The money isn’t flowing yet. The company still needs an export route for yellowcake, permit extensions, a direct deal with Niamey’s government, and final loan papers.

This comes as Niger fights with France’s Orano and leans on Russian security partners. Uranium is now a U.S. critical mineral, so Washington wants a foothold before someone else takes it.

CEO Stephen Roman went to D.C. this summer to push the deal over the line. Off-take contracts already cover about 11% of the mine plan. Getting the ore out of the country is still the hard part. #USA #Niger
