In Kenya, some farmers are using large plastic containers as simple solar food dryers, giving harvested fruit more time before it spoils.
The containers use transparent covers to trap heat from the sun, while ventilated sections let moisture escape. Inside, sliced fruit can be spread across trays and dried slowly without needing electricity or complicated machinery.
That matters because fresh produce can spoil quickly after harvest, especially when refrigeration is limited. Drying removes much of the moisture, making the fruit easier to store for longer and reducing the amount that gets wasted.
I like how practical the setup is. Sunlight provides the heat, airflow does the drying, and a basic container becomes something genuinely useful for the farm.
