Chloroform is a colourless chemical liquid that was once widely used as a general anaesthetic during surgery in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

It works by depressing the central nervous system, reducing brain activity and eventually causing unconsciousness under sufficient exposure.

However, the claim that chloroform takes exactly 6 to 8 minutes to make someone unconscious is misleading.

There is no universal timeframe because its effects depend on the concentration, duration of exposure and individual factors.

Historical medical use involved carefully controlled administration, not simply holding a soaked cloth over someone's face.

Chloroform is also far more dangerous than movies suggest.

Exposure can initially cause dizziness, nausea, headaches and drowsiness.

Severe poisoning can lead to unconsciousness, dangerous heart rhythm disturbances, respiratory failure and even death. #fblifestyle #education
