Bashir’s Family Seeks Urgent Medical Treatment Abroad
The family of former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir says his health has deteriorated and he urgently needs medical treatment outside Sudan.
His lawyer said military authorities had given initial approval for Bashir, 82, to travel abroad, but final authorization from senior leaders is still pending.
Bashir is currently receiving treatment at Aliaa Military Hospital in Omdurman. His family has appealed to army chief Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to allow him to seek treatment abroad, while also calling for his release after nearly eight years in detention.
Bashir ruled Sudan for three decades before being ousted in 2019. He is wanted by the International Criminal Court over alleged genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur, charges he denies.
