Why Nairobi Senator and presidential aspirant EDWIN SIFUNA wants police allowed to vote during elections.

Nairobi Senator and presidential aspirant Edwin Sifuna has called for urgent measures to guarantee police and other security officers deployed during elections can exercise their constitutional right to vote.

Addressing the Senate on Wednesday, August 5, Sifuna sought a statement from the Standing Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights and Foreign Relations on the plight of officers who miss out on voting because they are stationed away from their registered polling stations.

He stressed that Article 38 of the Constitution guarantees every Kenyan citizen the right to vote by secret ballot, yet thousands of officers are effectively disenfranchised during polls.

Sifuna argued that advances in electoral technology and existing voting arrangements for Kenyans abroad prove that mechanisms can be developed to allow serving officers to cast ballots without disrupting security operations.

He asked the committee to outline legal, policy and administrative steps being pursued by the State Law Office in collaboration with the Independent Electoral and
Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

He also demanded assurances that any system would protect ballot secrecy and shield officers from intimidation or influence by their command structures.

The senator further pressed for clarity on logistical support, including transport
and time off duty, to ensure officers can vote while maintaining election security.

He insisted that no Kenyan should be denied participation in democracy because of national service responsibilities. #Elections2027

The Linda Mwananchi leadership team has stormed the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties in Nairobi.

MPs Babu Owino, Edwin Sifuna, and spokesperson Caroli Omondi confronted Registrar John Cox Lorionokou after the state rejected their application to reserve the name "Linda Mwananchi Party of Kenya".

Following the tense meeting, the movement announced that the Registrar has agreed to officially reconsider the rejection.

Kiambaa Voters protest against MP over Ol Kalou By-Election violence claims

Voters in Kiambaa Constituency took to the streets on Monday to protest the alleged conduct of their Member of Parliament, John Njuguna Wanjiku, over claims he was linked to hooliganism during the Ol Kalou by-election.
Chanting and carrying placards, the residents marched to the constituency offices to present their grievances, in a show of anger that reflected growing frustration with how their representative has carried himself in the wake of the July 16 poll.

At the centre of their complaint is an allegation that Wanjiku, alias Kawanjiku, was seen with his vehicles and several of his associates among groups accused of causing chaos in Ol Kalou during the by-election.

A part from the few people eating the crumbs that fall off Ruto’s table, there is a consensus among an overwhelming majority of Kenyans that Ruto is #WanTam.

Because of his greed, Ruto has managed to awaken the Kenyan middle class that in the past, never saw the need to vote.

Ruto hasn’t just made the hustlers more poorer, the guy has raided the payslip of the middle class, squeezing them in their pocketbooks, to an extent never seen before.

Everywhere across the country, you will hear those with payslips saying how these days they are just working to create money for Ruto.

The sad part is that the money Ruto and his administration are forcefully extracting from Kenyans, is not used to benefit the people.

A majority of it is stolen and stashed abroad as UDA leaders compete on who can steal the most of our taxes.

Construction of the Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit headquarters will begin in August at Kamukunji Police Station, the Ministry of Interior has announced. The station will be redeveloped into a modern security complex housing operational offices, police accommodation, and the Integrated Command and Communication Centre (IC4) for real-time surveillance and coordination across Nairobi.

The ministry said Kamukunji was chosen because of its strategic location in one of the city's busiest commercial areas. Internal Security Secretary Thomas Sakah led a multi-agency team to assess the site ahead of construction.

The project forms part of the Nairobi Metropolitan Policing Framework, whose design draws on policing models from New York, London and Japan. President William Ruto said the new unit will adopt a community-led policing approach involving residents, security agencies and county officials.

Police Warn Unregistered Vehicles in Ol Kalou Will Be Impounded After DCP Outcry
Central Regional Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha has warned motorists against driving vehicles without registration plates during the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, saying offenders will face legal action.

Speaking during a security briefing, Nkanatha said any vehicle found operating without number plates would be impounded. Earlier in the day, DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala said there are so many vehicles without number plates in the area.

"Everyone should know it is illegal to drive around without number plates. If our officers catch such vehicles, they will be impounded and taken to the police station," he said.

9 candidates are contesting today's Ol Kalou by-election, with 73,480 voters expected at 144 polling stations.
