North Korea: Kim Jong Un’s sister says anyone who thinks North Korea will give up its nuclear weapons is an “idiot.”

Kim Yo Jong, one of the most powerful figures in Pyongyang, said the country’s status as a nuclear-armed state is “absolute” and cannot be reversed. The remarks were carried Thursday by state media as the IAEA met in Vienna and renewed calls for denuclearization.

“If they believe that it is really possible, they will only hear the word of idiots,” she said.

She called denuclearization talk “familiar silly talk” and said North Korea’s nuclear position has been “permanently settled physically and legally.” The arsenal, she added, deters what she called “international rogues.”

North Korea has already written its nuclear status into law. Talks with Washington collapsed in 2019. Estimates of its warheads range from the high 50s to well over 100, depending on who is counting.

Seoul is watching the timing. A day later, Kim Yo Jong also warned of a “more offensive” response to U.S.-led military drills.
