In Njenga Karume's memoir, 'Beyond Expectations : From Charcoal To Gold' the ex Kiambaa MP narrates how he at one time hosted a party in his home and since Charles Mugane Njonjo, the then Attorney General, was one of the dignitaries invited, he went ahead and imported his brand of beer from Germany.

In his characteristic flamboyance, Njonjo came with his beer mug as he couldn't use the ordinary cutlery every Tom, Dick and Harry were served in.

When the party ended and he went back to the city, he noticed that his beer mug was missing.

Being an AG with absolute power, he called the then Central Provincial Commissioner David Musila and gave instructions that the operation to recover his priced mug should commence immediately

The PC in turn called the DC who in turn called the DO who mobilised the chiefs and soon the entire village was looking for Njonjo's lost mug under the supervision of the PC.

Luckily the mug was found and driven in the PC's Land Rover to Njonjo's office at Sheria House making it the most sought mug in the history of Kenya.

🚨 More than 1,000 elderly men and women were allegedly charged KSh 3,000 each after being promised a trip to State House to meet President William Ruto and receive title deeds for Mau Mau land.

Gachagua Alleges Plot to Arrest Auditor General Nancy Gathungu Over Audit Reports

Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that there are plans within the government to arrest Auditor General Nancy Gathungu over her audit reports exposing alleged misuse of public funds.

Speaking on Friday, July 31, during a meeting with Maasai leaders and supporters at his Wamunyoro residence, Gachagua alleged that he had received information from sources within the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) indicating that investigators had been instructed to find evidence that could be used to prosecute the Auditor General.

"As we speak, sources today at the DCI have reached out to me and told me that Kasongo (the President) has said that the Auditor General Nancy Gathungu should be fished for evidence against her because she is bringing to light all that theft within the government," Gachagua claimed.

He further alleged that senior government officials had directed the DCI to build a case against Gathungu because of her reports highlighting alleged financial irregularities.

"I have information that you have directed the DCI Director to look for grounds to have this woman arrested," he added.

Neither the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Office of the Auditor General, nor State House had publicly responded to Gachagua's allegations at the time of publication. The claims remain unverified. #Elections2027 #Wamunyoro

Weeks after Joseph Kabila took over as President of the Democratic Republic of Congo on 26 January 2001, President Moi was touring Central Kenya in the company of Uhuru Kenyatta and Joseph John Kamotho, among other leaders.

During a stop-over at Sagana market, Mr Kamotho recalled the President saying:

'The young son of Kabila (the late Laurent Kabila) is now the President of the DRC.

Who says this young man here Uhuru can’t be President like his father?'

Another hint Mr Kamotho remembered was when he was invited for dinner in the President’s private Nairobi home.

As the two had a meal, Mr Moi, all of a sudden, asked:

'This friend of yours Saitoti (Vice-President), is he serious he wants to take over when I retire?'

When Mr Kamotho replied in the affirmative, Mr Moi said:

'But how come he wants me to do everything for him?

He has no friends and doesn’t want to spend his own money!'😂

As Mr Kamotho made to defend his friend, the President cut short the discussion and pretended it was a non-issue.

Something is changing in Kenyan politics, and many haven't priced it in.

Edwin Sifuna lost the Nairobi Senate race in 2017.

He didn't disappear into government. He didn't negotiate a soft landing. He rebuilt.

In 2018, he became ODM Secretary General. In 2022, he returned and won Nairobi's Senate seat.

Then came the broad-based government.

While many opposition figures crossed over, Sifuna stayed put. He lost positions, but kept his political identity. In an era where almost everyone seems to have a price, he refused to put himself on the shelf.

Now comes something even more interesting.

His Linda Mwananchi campaign is being funded by ordinary Kenyans. Thousands of small M-Pesa contributions have replaced a handful of wealthy financiers.

A politician funded by the public is harder for the powerful to purchase.

Then look at what happened elsewhere.

On July 16, Ol Kalou delivered one of the clearest political messages in recent years. DCP defeated UDA by 35,440 votes to 5,450 — almost a 6:1 margin.

Different leaders. Different regions.

But the same question.

Are Kenyans beginning to value authenticity over political convenience?

Whether Sifuna eventually wins the presidency is a different debate.

But if ordinary citizens can finance serious campaigns, and if incumbents can suffer margins like Ol Kalou, then Kenyan politics may be entering a new phase.

Kenya plans to raise KSh 995.7 billion from domestic investors in the 2026/27 fiscal year, largely from the same banks that lend to businesses. Those banks already held about KSh 2.2 trillion in government securities in March, roughly 27% of banking-sector assets. At the end of the day, however, the people are watching. Any leader who stands against the will and interests of the people -traitors included - will be sent packing in 2027. The temporary cheers of today will not protect them from the verdict of the ballot.
