What has quietly disappeared from our lives over the last 10 years… and most of us barely noticed?

Not everything disappears with an announcement. Some things simply become less common until one day you realise they are almost gone.

I. Cyber cafés — once essential for email, applications and browsing. Smartphones changed everything.

II. DVD/CD shops — streaming practically wiped out the culture of buying movies and music on discs.

III. Printed road maps — Google Maps and GPS made stopping to ask for directions almost unnecessary.

IV. Standalone digital cameras — for most people, the smartphone became the camera.

V. Handwritten letters — WhatsApp, email and DMs replaced something that once carried enormous emotional value.

VI. Phone numbers we actually memorised — our phones remember everyone for us now.

VII. Waiting for the evening news — today, news reaches you every second, whether you want it or not.

VIII. Going to the bank for simple transactions — mobile banking and mobile money quietly moved the bank into our pockets.

IX. Privacy and genuine offline time — we became permanently reachable, permanently online and increasingly observable.

X. Patience — perhaps the biggest one. We now expect food, money, information, entertainment, replies and results almost instantly.

Technology did not just give us new things.

It quietly removed old habits, businesses, skills and ways of living.

The interesting question is: what are we using today that will have completely disappeared by 2036?

Kenya's government is looking for a firm to host sensitive State data on local cloud servers as it moves away from physical government servers.

If selected, the firm could host systems such as eCitizen, government databases, and other sensitive State information on approved local cloud infrastructure. #technology

President Mnangagwa Abruptly Cancels Bulawayo Visit Amid Rising Political Tensions

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa unexpectedly cancelled his scheduled appearance at the Mine Entra Exhibition in Bulawayo, leaving government officials, business leaders, and journalists waiting at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport without an explanation.

Those assembled to receive the President were reportedly instructed to "stand down and leave the airport," with no official reason given for the last-minute cancellation.

The unexpected change of plans comes at a time of heightened political tension in Zimbabwe, following renewed calls for nationwide demonstrations by opposition activists and civic groups. The cancellation has fueled widespread speculation about the circumstances behind the decision, although there is no official indication that it was related to the planned protests.

As of now, Zimbabwean authorities have not issued a formal statement explaining why the President's visit was called off. #Zimbabwe

TikTok removed 884,591 videos in Kenya for violating its Community Guidelines during the first quarter of 2026, while deleting 48,739 accounts belonging to users under the age of 13, according to the platform's newly released Q1 2026 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report.
The company said 99.7% of the flagged videos were proactively detected and removed before any user reports were made, with 96.3% taken down within 24 hours of being uploaded. TikTok also interrupted 103,847 LIVE rooms in Kenya during the quarter for breaching its guidelines, part of what it described as an intensified focus on the safety of real-time broadcasts, including monitoring monetisation enforcement and issuing warnings to creators.
The underage-account removals form part of the platform's ongoing effort to enforce its minimum age requirement of 13. TikTok said the increased use of artificial intelligence, which now accounts for more than 96% of all content removals globally, has allowed harmful videos and non-compliant accounts to be identified and taken down faster, with thousands of trust and safety professionals working alongside automated systems to enforce its Community Guidelines, Terms of Service and Advertising Policies.
The Kenya figures follow a similar pattern to the previous quarter, when TikTok removed 820,552 videos and banned 108,752 accounts, 93,704 of which were suspected to belong to under-13 users — underscoring a persistent, large-scale challenge in preventing minors from creating accounts in the first place, since detection after sign-up is a fundamentally different problem than blocking access at registration. Globally, TikTok removed over 184 million videos in Q1 2026, representing roughly 0.5% of all uploaded content, with automated systems catching the vast majority before any human review.

🚨NEW STATEMENT: Ruto promises full government funding for all university and college students.

But wait:
1️⃣ Where is this in the current budget?
2️⃣ Isn’t this the same regime that jacked up university fees with the HEF model?

Unfunded promise or political panic after Ol Kalou?

Remember: this is after his government drastically raised the cost of higher education. If Kenyans buy this, we haven't learned anything.
