A Kenyan man has died just one day before he was supposed to travel to the United Kingdom to start a new chapter of his life.

Pato Palmer, who worked at Java in Nanyuki, had secured an opportunity to join the Royal Navy. He had completed all the preparations for his journey, including getting his UK visa and booking a flight to London for Monday, September 21.

Pato was reportedly excited about the opportunity and had shared the good news with his friends. He was looking forward to starting a new life in the UK.

Sadly, tragedy struck on Sunday, September 20, just a day before his planned departure.

Pato was reportedly swimming at a pool during what was expected to be his final workout before travelling when he drowned. He was rushed to hospital, but sadly, he was pronounced dead.

His death came just hours before the journey he had worked so hard to achieve.

The news has left his family, friends and colleagues heartbroken. What was supposed to be a happy time filled with excitement and new beginnings has instead turned into a time of mourning.

Pato's dreams of starting a new life in the UK were tragically cut short.
