Safaricom is making major cuts to M-PESA merchant charges from this August:

—Pochi La Biashara: Customer payments to merchants will be free up to KES 200 for 90 days from 1 August, with lower charges above that threshold.

—Lipa na M-PESA Buy Goods: Free collections increase from KES 200 to KES 500 from 7 August; amounts above KES 500 remain charged at 0.55%, capped at KES 200.

—M-PESA Business Till transfers: Charges for moving funds from a till to an M-PESA account or PayBill will fall by up to 50% from 7 August.

Kenya's High Court has lifted the shisha ban, making it legal to sell and use shisha again.

The court ruled that the government did not follow the proper legal process to enforce the ban.

Nairobi County has approved plans for its first underground railway beneath the CBD.

The project's first phase will connect the CBD to Eastlands.

Future phases propose extensions to Westlands, Ngong Road, and Lang'ata.

Ruto Appoints Charles Owino as New Govt Spokesperson, Sossion to TSC Board

President William Ruto has announced fresh appointments and nominations in the Executive, naming a new Government Spokesperson while forwarding nominees to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), and other state bodies.

In changes announced on Tuesday, July 21, former police spokesperson Charles Owino Wahong'o was redeployed from the Ministry of ICT and appointed as the new Government Spokesperson.

President Ruto also nominated seven individuals to serve on the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC), subject to ratification by the National and County Government Coordinating Summit.

Among the nominees is Mary Nanjala Kilobi (spouse to COTU SG Francis Atwoli), who will represent Nairobi County.

The others are Wilson Kuria Thuita (Murang'a), Silvya C. Apaa (Busia), Ahmed Kanyara Bishar (Wajir), Pascalyne Ntang'enoi Kimiriri (Laikipia), Ken Riaga (Migori), and Evalyn Chepkirui Aruasa (Nakuru).
