The government is considering a major irrigation project to lower Lake Baringo's rising water levels and prevent a possible merger with the neighbouring saline Lake Bogoria.

Lake Baringo and Lake Bogoria are in the verge of merging- if urgent interventions are not taken. It will cause an ecological disaster. One lake is salty and the other is fresh water.

Lake Baringo has risen by 12- 14 metres in the last 15 years. About 2 billion cubic metres of water added same period. The surface area has grown from 108 kms squared to 130 kms squared.

As a result, livelihoods have been affected. Homes and public amenities submerged. It is turning into a major issue of concern.
