A shrimp's heart is located in its upper body region, specifically in the thorax section just behind the head. Because the head and thorax are fused into a single unit called the cephalothorax and covered by a hard shell, people commonly say the heart is in the head. With an open circulatory system, the heart pumps hemolymph directly over the organs, delivering oxygen and nutrients. Their blood is often pale blue, using copper instead of iron to carry oxygen.
